McLaren’s Lando Norris has described his pole position lap at the Austrian Grand Prix as “close to perfection”.
The young British driver secured his first ever Formula 1 pole position in a thrilling qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring.
Norris put in a stunning lap to beat the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen to pole position, much to the delight of McLaren and their fans.
Speaking after the session, Norris said, “That lap was as close to perfection as I could have gotten. The car felt amazing and I was able to push to the limit.”
He added, “To start at the front of the grid tomorrow is a dream come true and I will give it my all to convert this pole position into a race win.”
McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl praised Norris for his impressive performance, saying, “Lando showed immense talent and maturity today. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
The Austrian Grand Prix is set to be a closely contested race, with Norris facing stiff competition from the likes of Hamilton, Verstappen, and Sergio Perez.
However, Norris remains confident in his abilities and is determined to put up a strong fight in Sunday’s race.
McLaren will be hoping for a strong result at their home race and Norris’ pole position has certainly boosted their chances of success.
